Adoption Process

There are multiple steps in the adoption process at Red Leash Rescue. We are committed to finding permanent, loving homes for all of our dogs. During the application process honesty and patience are key to ensuring that you and your prospective best friend are a good match.

In order to be approved for adoption, you must be at least 21 years of age.

First, you must fill out our non-binding adoption application and submit it online. Our application process is free - we do ask for a $2 to $20 donation to help cover admin fees charged by Bluehost, Squarespace and PayPal platforms for the use of their services. As a 501(c)3 this non-mandatory donation, is a charitable contribution and you will be provided a receipt for tax purposes by PayPal after the transaction. This donation is NOT mandatory in order to apply and/or successfully adopt from Red Leash Rescue and you do not need a PayPal account in order to process donation.

If an adoption proceeds there is an additional $400.00 adoption donation due at time of adoption. Again, all donations are charitable contributions to allow our program to continue. In the unfortunate event an adopter decides to return a dog after they have signed the Adoption Contract, we will refund 50% of the adoption donation upon the return of the dog.

Once your application is received, you will be contacted within 48 hours by one of our volunteers via text, email or phone and we will review your application and the adoption process with you.

If your application is approved, we will arrange a meet-up so our rescue can interview you and your family. It’s important that all members of your family (two- and four-legged) be present unless prior arrangements have been made.

Adoptions are not granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Our adult and senior dogs are matched with people and families that meet their needs best.

If you are interested in adopting but do not find a match with one of our available dogs, you may submit an application which once approved will stay active for 6 months- in which time we encourage you to follow us on Facebook to be made aware of dogs as they come into our program. All dogs are posted on Facebook first to allow approved adopters a chance to notify us of their interest prior to the dog being placed on Petfinder. Red Leash Rescue is committed to placing all available dogs into permanent homes. If we know of a possible match currently being sheltered elsewhere, we will do our best to connect you with that dog.
